Scan your garment

  • Use a contrasting surface — the garment must be a clearly different colour from what it's on. A grey top on grey carpet can't be measured; a bed sheet or towel in a different colour works well.
  • Lay it flat — smooth out wrinkles, sleeves down beside the body. On a boxy tee whose sleeves won't sit down, fold them back over the front so the outline is just the body. Trousers/jeans: fold one leg exactly onto the other.
  • Place a bank card next to it (not on it). The card is the ruler.
  • Shoot from directly above, the whole garment and card in frame.
